8 Human Food You Shouldn’t Give Your Cat

1. Alcohol

You should not share alcohol with your pets and cats. It’s not a laughing matter. Alcohol could cause permanent organ damage to the cat. There is a possibility that your feline friend will die. It is very important to keep alcohol related product away from your cat. Therefore, it is recommended to keep alcohol and personal care products away from cats.

Chocolate is very toxic to feline friends. Though most cats wouldn’t eat it on their own. But, they can be given by the owners or other people who give the cat a treat. 3. Caffeine

A large amount of caffeine could be toxic to feline friends. There is no antidote to cure caffeine poisoning. Caffeine poisoning is fatal for cats and includes restlessness, rapid breathing, and heart palpitations. Some sources of caffeine are cocoa, chocolate, colas, etc. Cats are not normally attracted to the smell of caffeine.

4. Dairy products

Most cats are lactose tolerant. Because the enzyme that breaks down lactose is absent in most cats. As a young kitten grows older, it loses this enzyme from its body. So when an adult cat drinks milk, it can digest the lactose and cause an upset stomach.

5. Raw food

Raw foods are like raw meat, raw fish, and raw eggs. At some point, this could be toxic to your feline friends. Raw foods can contain bacteria. And it can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and a painful condition like pancreatitis. It is recommended to consult a veterinarian before giving raw food to cats.

6. Grapes and raisins

Most kittens won’t eat it even if you share it with them. Your feline friend can suffer acute kidney failure from eating grapes and raisins. Therefore, it is not advisable to give your cat these fruits, instead he could share other fruits like banana, apples, and mango.

7. Onion and Garlic

Onion and garlic are toxic to cats both raw and cooked. They could break down the red blood cells of cats. If your feline friend is eating onions and garlic regularly every day, it can cause onion poisoning. You should keep them away from your cat.

8. Xylitol

According to the ASPCA, xylitol is very toxic to your furball. It can cause liver failure in cats and lead to death in the worst case.
