Best places to eat in Val D’Isere

Val d’Isere, as one of the best ski resorts in the world, has a wide selection of bars and restaurants to keep you entertained and well fed.

Prices are relatively high but overall you will receive a high level of service and delicious food. For lunches, there are several mountain restaurants serving fresh home-cooked food to keep your energy levels high for skiing the rest of the day.

The La Table de l’Ours restaurant is located inside the Hotel Barmes de l’Ours and has the award of one Michelin star. Unsurprisingly, the menus are creative and the food is beautifully presented.

L’Atelier d’Edmond in Le Fornet is organized around 3 dining rooms, each with its own distinctive style: you will feel immersed in traditional Savoyard culture. The menu is exceptional and original, the service is impeccable and a shuttle service is provided for guests. This is a memorable place, perfect to spend hours in good company, great food, and great wines.

Le Grande Ourse is considered one of the best restaurants in Val d’Isère, and the prices reflect this. The restaurant opened in the 1930s when Val was establishing itself as a ski resort. The meals here are as gourmet as they are at Val.

Pier Paul Jack at the Aigle des Neiges hotel consists of three places in one and is currently one of the ‘places to be’. Pier is the hotel’s restaurant. Paul is the original ‘world cuisine’ restaurant, and Jack is the tapas bar where you can enjoy live music while you eat.

On the slopes, probably the most famous restaurant is La Folie Douce (top of the Daille bubble). Enjoy spectacular views of Mont Blanc from balconies or oversized sofas. This is not the place to go if you like peace and quiet, as there is usually music all day, and things start to get raucous around 4pm. If this appeals to you, hang out for a great après-ski, with champagne, table dancing, and blasting music. In terms of food, this is basically an expensive self-service restaurant with a wide variety of dishes and an acceptable dish of the day.

Right next to La Folie Douce is La Fruitiere, which serves almost the same fare but at double the price, in a much quieter setting. Both are certainly worth a visit for the atmosphere and if you are in a catered ski chalet, you may prefer to dine in the comfort of your chalet in the evening.

This is just a sample of some of the restaurants in Val, I will also check out the bars soon and keep you posted.
