Difference between custom and ready-made frames

There is a song or adage that says “A picture paints a thousand words”. Some people even frame these printed images for display and reflective purposes. But how do you choose the best framework for it? Should I go for the ready-made ones or make a custom frame? Before deciding which framework to choose, you must first understand the difference between the two. It may seem obvious, but there is actually more to this notion than meets the eye. For example, having the right frame to display your image with pride saves you time and money.

Ready-made vs. custom frames

Factory manufactured and assembled for direct and immediate use is the proper description for a ready-made frame. These are packaged similarly and in agreement with the manufacturer. They typically come with pre-made glass covers, integrated frame hardware, and backrest. Such a frame can be placed on a table or fixed to a wall, and is generally manufactured in different standard sizes. If you want this type of frame, you can buy it from almost every frame retailer and photo store. As they are already prefabricated, they are conveniently used out of the box.

Custom picture frames, on the other hand, are specially and specifically made to the customer’s needs and specifications. These frames are generally made to frame artwork such as oil paintings, watercolor artwork, and unique photographs and paintings. With a custom made frame, you can choose the type of trim you want for your frame. You can also make it with the dimensions you need and all the other things you want for your photo frame.

Since the framing is the one who makes their frames, the public generally sees them as a ready-made frame, which is not true. A custom made frame is actually more expensive than standard “off the shelf” frames.

Protective covers + additional accessories for your frame and artwork

The type of cover to protect your art and its frame depends on your needs and the advice of your framer. Glass, acrylic and UV protective surfaces can be used as protective covers. You can also ask your framer to put your picture or art in the frame so you can easily hang it or place it once you have it.

When are custom-made frames more beneficial than prefabricated ones?

Having a custom frame are the main options if you want a frame that best suits your artwork. Most of these have a variety of measurements to fit different types of images and artwork. This option also allows you to choose the right one that matches well and shows your art to the fullest. The only downside to this option is charging extra time and budget to have them. But a highly displayed work of art justifies what you’ve spent on it.
