Gulf Coast Vacations

The Texas Gulf Coast isn’t always the first place people think of vacationing during the summer, but there are some pretty cool places to visit in the south. Whether your family enjoys big city or small town life, rural areas or coastal towns with plenty of surfing breaks, there’s a place for you in Texas.

Texas is best known for its sprawling pastures and oversized belt buckles and cowboy hats, but that really does little to emphasize its major cosmopolitan areas and coastal cities. Would you believe that the coast is full of surfers and quite a few beach bums? Many of these “beach bums” are retirees who enjoy taking walks on the beach every morning and enjoying the warm tropical weather you’ll find on the coast.

On the beaches you’ll see cars and trucks with surfboards sticking out of the windows and tied to the top, and on the water you’ll see lots of people of all ages, races and genders riding waves and having fun. You may think of California when you think of surfers, and if so, you probably think of high prices too. In Texas, you don’t get scammed every time you buy a meal or book a hotel room on the beach, and you can still enjoy the tropical setting of the coast.

The climate on the Gulf Coast in seaside towns like Galveston, Corpus Christi and South Padre is tropical year-round. There are a few days here and there where temperatures drop to around the 40s, but they are few and far between, with temperatures before and after being in the 60s and 80s. In fact, if you’re up north right now using a coat with the heat on, you can bet there are people living on the coast wearing shorts with the windows open. It is a beautiful tropical place with friendly people and more than 370 miles of beaches.
