How to reduce the foam of 5 liter mini beer kegs

One big complaint with mini kegs, as they have been gaining popularity, is the amount of foam you get with each pour. When you read reviews of min beer dispensers on Amazon, they are plagued with this very complaint. In this post I hope to clarify the process of pouring beer from a mini keg to reduce excess foam.

Step 1. Chill the beer

This is the most important step, warm beer = frothy beer. You don’t want to buy a keg the same night you plan to drink it. Buy it the day before and put it in the fridge or your mini keg dispenser and let it cool for 10-12 hours.

Step 2. To do this, clean

Make sure the glass you are using is nice and clean. You don’t want any residue or particles in your beer to interrupt the pour or taste of your beer.

Step 3. Stop at an angle

When preparing to pour the beer, align your glass at an angle of just over 45 degrees. Tilting the glass reduces agitation which will create more foam.

Step 4. To make it smooth

Pull out the faucet in a slow, smooth motion. Aim the initial so that it hits the center of the glass and flows to the bottom of the glass. As the beer is being poured, keep tilting the glass until it is almost perpendicular to the keg and then raise the angle again as the beer fills up.

Step 5. Enjoy your fresh draft beer

Once you have your glass filled with a nice clean pour and about 1-1 ½ “of foam on top, it’s time for the first sip. Scoop off the excess foam from the top and toss it back. Tastes good, does it? do not?

There you now have your simple guidelines for pouring the perfect glass from your Heineken Mini Keg while reducing unwanted suds.
