Kitchen curtains: 5 tips to get it right

Kitchen curtains are a fundamental element to finish off the kitchen decoration. Unfortunately, they often tend to be forgotten. However, once you have them, you’ll see what a difference framing your windows with the right window treatment can make. Here are five tips to help you make the right choice.

1. Go simple and casual

Fancy fringes and tails and elaborate curtain headings are best suited for formal rooms like the living room or bedroom. Keep the curtains simple in a kitchen to be more in keeping with the style of the room.

2. Add impact with fabric design

While we may be hesitant to choose (and stick with) colored cabinets, shades are a great way to add some color to a kitchen. Choose a fabric pattern and colors that work well with the other items in your kitchen, whether they’re contemporary, classic, or country.

3. Keep them short

Long curtains generally work best with the casual style of a kitchen, although long curtains may be appropriate if you have a dining room window in your kitchen and use it for dining. A diner-style curtain is also great if you want some privacy but don’t want to block out too much light.

4. Make sure they are washable

Your kitchen curtains are likely to get a lot dirtier than curtains in other rooms in your home with all the steam and grease in the air. They will need to be cleaned frequently, so feel comfortable choosing a curtain or fabric that washes easily in the washing machine rather than one that requires you to make a trip to the dry cleaner.

5. Think safety

Fabrics hanging over a kitchen area are not ideal. If you have a window near a kitchen, consider whether curtains are a safe option. It may be better with a simple roller blind that keeps away from flames or hot pans.
