Little Havana in Budapest

La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana, the birthplace of the Mojito cocktail, is known as a wonderful gathering place that truly unites the colonial past with our present time through its rum cocktails, cigars, and local cuisine. Today you will find franchise restaurants in all corners of the world such as Mexico, France, Gran Canaria, Czech Republic, etc. As part of the restaurant chain, La Bodeguita Del Medio arrived in Budapest in December 2012. This is the city’s first truly authentic Cuban bar and restaurant, located in the completely renovated Fészek Klub.

The original Bodeguita del Medio was founded by Ángel Martínez in Havana in 1942 and soon became extremely popular, especially among artists and bohemians. In addition to the most famous regular guest, Ernest Hemingway, the restaurant hosted Pablo Neruda, Gabriel García Márquez, Brigitte Bardot, Sophia Loren and other Hollywood stars, as evidenced by plenty of photographs on the restaurant’s walls. Following the tradition of the original La Bodeguita del Medio, among the traditional relics of the Budapest restaurant – autographs, photos and signatures of people from all over the world, brought directly from Havana – includes an upside down chair dedicated to the memory of a famous Cuban writer. Before heading into WWII, he requested that his chair be upside down whenever he returned from the battlefield. Unfortunately he never did, and since then in all the restaurants in La Bodeguita Del Medio they honor his memory by hanging a chair on the wall, upside down.

Budapest’s La Bodeguita del Medio, with its authentic interior, cuisine, music, cigars and cocktails, gives the city a true colorful and vibrant taste of Havana life, hands down. It is the best place in the city to taste the Cuban atmosphere along with delicious cocktails like their famous Mojitos! In addition to the mojitos you will find typical Cuban culinary specialties such as congri, roasted plantain, yuca mojo sauce and taro chips, Aljibé chicken and old clothes. The overall bright atmosphere offers a unique and friendly, relaxed and fun place to spend the afternoons enjoying delicious and delicious food, sipping cocktails to quench your thirst with your friends or listening to live traditional Cuban music from the band La Movida. Beny Pérez García founded this Cuban band in 2009, the current line-up with Ignacio Carballo and Michel Carballo exists since 2012. With their performances their objective is to bring joy and satisfaction to the public so that they can guarantee a quality artistic interpretation and the true flavor of the Cuban music. You can enjoy the Latin party through its music, while dancing until late at night, as the party never ends at La Bodeguita Del Medio in Budapest!
