Natural Remedies for Anxiety: The 5 Best Exercises to Relieve Anxiety

The butterflies woke me up. But instead of being in an enchanted land with fluttering fairies and surreal colors, I looked up at the ceiling and worried about money again. My old friend Anxiety had returned. She came back to my world and as usual she didn’t even bother to call…

My breath had become short. I had to sit up and used the momentum to get out of bed and get ready to face the day. God, was it really only Wednesday?

Does not matter. I went down to the floor, assumed the push-up position and proceeded to do push-ups. 10-20-30, not stopping to rest until I hit 50. The butterflies weren’t quite gone yet, but soon they would be like dead leaves crushed in the palm of my hand, before they could molt into a complete- blown anxiety attack.

Since I know I’m not the only one who has suffered from anxiety, I wanted to share something that has always helped me, which has been using exercise to relieve anxiety. As simplistic as it may seem, sometimes it’s the simplest and most fundamental things in life that still work best. And therefore, sometimes it is worth remembering.

So get up, get going and keep moving. It’s like being in a war zone. You don’t want to make yourself an easy target, so keep moving! Here are my top 5 exercises for natural anxiety relief:

  • Lizards. Do as many as you can in one minute. Don’t worry (ha ha!) about how many you can do or not do. Your goal is simply to get going and improve slowly, but do more each time. You will be surprised how quickly you will improve.
  • ABS. They’re not just for sexy abs anymore! Say that especially to the person who suffers from anxiety in the pit of their stomach. The goal here is the same as the push-ups; just do as many as you can in sixty seconds. This is a great exercise to get rid of butterflies and yes, it will help you get sexy abs, if you eat right too.
  • dominated. This one may be the hardest for some people, especially if you don’t have access to a pull up bar, but you can buy an over the door model, screw one to the wall, stud/joist in the garage, or even use a tree branch in the garden or in a nearby park. Do as many as you can. Even if it’s just 1 rep and then try 2 next time and so on. This is another exercise that you will get better at quickly if you keep doing it.
  • Air squats or deep knee bends. Simply bend down until your thighs are completely parallel to the floor at 90 degrees while keeping your back as straight as possible. You can extend your arms out in front of you to help maintain balance and momentum. Again, do as many as you can in one minute.
  • jog or run. I realize that not everyone can lace up their running shoes and run a few miles, but if you can, go for it. If not, that’s fine too, but get outside and walk at a brisk pace to get your heart rate up, thereby strengthening your cardiovascular system. Fresh air is best, so get outside if you can. Even if it’s raining. Hug him!

You’ll notice that none of these exercises require a fancy gym and that’s the point. You don’t need to spend money to relieve anxiety! It can be achieved naturally, with a little effort, but once you get going, will be feeling better. For your health and success!
