The best time to see a gynecologist doctor

A gynecologist is a healthcare professional who focuses on a woman’s reproductive system from early adulthood through old age. He or she will perform preventive medicine, diagnose diseases or conditions, and plan courses of treatment. Every woman should start seeing a gynecologist when she is eighteen or becomes sexually active. Here are some tips for scheduling the best time to see a gynecologist:

Middle Menstrual Cycle – The best time in a woman’s monthly cycle to see this doctor is in the middle. This means about two weeks before or two weeks after a menstrual cycle. Many women’s monthly menstrual cycles are irregular, so it may be best to call to inform the doctor’s office. They may be able to offer some flexibility in scheduling appointments.

Empty bladder: It is best to perform an exam when the patient has an empty bladder so that the doctor can accurately perform a manual exam.

No douching: It is recommended that a patient not douche for a day or two prior to the exam. Still, douching is a questionable practice. The body is designed to cleanse itself naturally, and artificial products can upset this delicate balance. Ask your doctor for his or her opinion on the matter.

No recent sexual intercourse. Sexual intercourse can alter the lab results, which will show up on the exam. It is advisable to abstain from sexual intercourse twenty-four hours before the appointment.

Any unusual pain: If a woman experiences unusual pain in the region of her genitals or internal reproductive system, she should see this doctor. Pain is a red flag, not to be ignored.

Bleeding after intercourse: If a patient experiences bleeding after sexual contact, she should inform her doctor. This could be a sign of something serious.

Missed periods: If a person does not have monthly menstrual periods, they should take a pregnancy test. Discontinuation of menstruation can occur due to pregnancy, stress, menopause, or other causes.

Mid-cycle spotting: Spotting is a normal condition, usually triggered by the use of birth control pills in the first few months of use. If the spots are still frequent, it is something the doctor should be aware of. Time to make an appointment to find out what’s going on.

Having unprotected sex with a random partner: If a person has unprotected sex on a whim, they should be tested for a variety of STDs. Accidents do happen, but it is crucial not to let them escalate into a life threatening situation.

Pregnancy: If a patient is pregnant, she will need to see an OB / GYN, not just a gynecologist. OB stands for obstetrician. An obstetrician is the doctor who will take care of the pregnancy. Monthly exams, ultrasounds, maternity vitamins, and exercise will be necessary to help the expectant mother and the unborn baby.

Annual exams: Pap tests, breast exams, and pelvic exams should be done regularly each year to keep a woman in good health.

A gynecologist must care for patients through illness and health. It is important to have this doctor on speed dial.
