Two facts about Malcolm X that you didn’t know
There is Two facts about Malcolm X that you did not know and it is disturbing to know these facts.
The first fact about Malcolm X
Laura’s addiction and prostitution
laura she was a girl who befriended Malcolm when she first came to Boston to live with her sister Ella. She was a good girl in high school who wanted to go to college and study science or medicine.
She was an A student and was the only one who tried to convince Malcolm to go back to school after he told her that he always wanted to be a lawyer.
Laura met Malcolm when he worked as a soda fountain clerk at Townsend Pharmacy which was located right across from where Laura lived with her grandmother.
Laura and Malcolm went to a dance one night and it was there that Malcolm met Sophia, a white girl who became Malcolm’s wife and his breakthrough in his robbery scheme later in life.
Laura, heartbroken at being dumped by another woman, never went back to the pharmacy while she was at school.
But years later, Laura meets Malcolm again, but this time Malcolm is a cold-blooded con man who has a pimp friend named Sammy.
Malcolm and Sammy use a technique on Laura that Sammy has perfected that turns innocent girls into prostitutes.
In Malcolm X’s autobiography, he gives a graphic picture of what Laura becomes after she is kicked out.
“Laura he is in and out of jail because of drugs and is sold to men to support his habit. Later, hating the men who use her, she becomes a lesbian. I blame myself for this and jilting her for a white woman makes this a double crime.
The second and most disturbing fact about Malcolm X
After Malcolm becomes a minister for the Nation of Islam, he never locates Laura and helps her through the Nations of Islam’s drug rehab program, which was quickly becoming nationally recognized as the best.
The Nation of Islam was also building a university specifically for people majoring in science. Since Malcolm knew Laura wanted to go to college and study science, it seems only fair that Laura would be perfect for the Nation of Islam college program.
However, not once does Malcolm X mention trying to find and rescue Laura in his autobiography.
He goes to great lengths to try to find two former con men who once tried to kill him, Sammy, who later in the story tried to kill Malcolm because another woman was already dead before Malcolm got paroled and Archie from the West Indies, who threatened to kill him for money, was sick and living in a boarding house.
But no recorded attempt was ever made to rescue poor Laura, the only person Alex Haley ever named in a chapter.
These are just two facts about Malcolm X that are hidden in the story but give good explanations of how good kids like Laura with a bright future can go wrong, even today.
