Can video games improve your intelligence and memory?

Many people believe that video games are bad for your health and your brain! In moderation, certain types of video games can be beneficial for your brain and can even increase a person’s IQ.

Can computer games increase your intelligence and memory? Scientific studies have shown that playing Tetris and games of a similar nature can lead to a smarter brain, as players get better at the game. As players improve at the game, studies have shown lower glucose consumption.

Certain games can improve hand-eye coordination, intelligence, and problem solving. An example of this is Sim City, where players learn the basic functions of cities and how to solve problems efficiently. Rock band and Guitar Hero can also improve fitness even if you are not learning to play a real instrument that you compromise with memory pitch, tempo, speed and advance every time.

Dr. Alloway claims that games that use planning and strategy like Total War and Sudoku improve memory performance and intelligence. It also suggests that using Facebook can improve intelligence while maintaining relationships. While Twitter and texting can have negative effects as they provide endless information, but it is too short for you to not be able to process the information.

There is a new game produced by Luminosity.com called The Dual N Back training program. Challenge memory by simultaneously recalling items they can see and hear. This video game has been shown to increase fluid intelligence, which means that it helps people learn to solve novel problems creatively.

I wouldn’t recommend playing video games 24 hours a day though, as it can affect your social life and personal hygiene: Q I’m just trying to point out that video games aren’t all bad.
