Free agency shaking up the fantasy QB market

With the free agent frenzy that occurred after the lockout was lifted, the fantasy football landscape has changed dramatically. In my opinion the New England Patriots signing of WR Chad Johnson (Ocho Cinco) was a huge game changer don’t get me wrong Carson Palmer is a good quarterback but Tom Brady can really pull off some fantasy numbers with the right talent. This pick could make Tom Brady a potential No. 1 pick in some fantasy leagues, and makes Johnson a good starting fantasy wide receiver.

Another good pick was for the Chiefs to pick WR Steve Breaston from the Cardinals. Put him with WR Dwayne Bowe and rookie WR Jonathan Baldwin and that could take Matt Cassel from a good backup fantasy quarterback to a legitimate fantasy sleeper. It was a very solid play at QB last year with no receivers except Bowe to throw to and now that he has weapons to throw to him he could be a dangerous player. He is currently listed as the 18th-ranked quarterback in NFL.com fantasy football, so if you want to get good receivers and running backs in the early rounds, he might be your best bet if you wait until the later rounds to pick up your starting quarterback. field

Another sleeper at quarterback could be Tarvaris Jackson for the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Pete Carroll has stated that Jackson will be the starter for now and with the addition of Minnesota WR Sidney Rice to join receivers Mike Williams and Golden Tate, he could be a very good backup fantasy quarterback, if not a starter in some of the bigger leagues. He’s currently the 30th-ranked quarterback in NFL.com fantasy football, so he could be a great late-round pick as well.

One of the biggest question marks for me is quarterback Mark Sanchez, he has the potential to be a great fantasy pick and with the addition of WR Plaxico Burress to the team fresh out of prison, the question marks continue to grow. Last year he was predicted to be a decent pick at QB, but he disappointed at times during the season with WR Braylon Edwards, who is an unrestricted free agent, and WR Brad Smith, who is now with the Buffalo Bills. The addition of Plaxico Burress would have been huge before he went to prison, but now there are questions about whether he’s rusty. NFL.com has Sanchez ranked 19th in fantasy, but I wouldn’t put him that high. I wouldn’t risk my highest picks on him, but if he was there in the mid or late rounds, he could be a good backup QB for his team.

This season is about to get interesting, keep it here for all your fantasy football needs.
