Google Chrome: is it different?

Do you know what the technological news is this week? It is Google Chrome. It is the GOOGLE product! Anything from Google is news. Google decided to launch a new web browser to compete with Firefox and Microsoft IE. Wow! Is big! Yes. If it weren’t for Google, Chrome wouldn’t have had a 1% share in the browser on day one! When I heard this news, as anyone curious would do, I downloaded Chrome to check if it suits me. Read reviews to support my ideas. But most of them were very technical, which led me to put myself to the test and come up with something that a layman would understand and help him decide if chrome is the best for him.

Why did Google start Chrome? – The obvious question

Maybe they were bored with just creating apps and wanted to risk it all! But when you ask Google this question, it responds: “Because we believe that we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web”. Of course, Google deserves a big round of applause for testing browsers.

Is Google Chrome really the most searched browser or is it just an exaggeration?

For this, you must know the technical background that only the appearance of this browser.

The professionals:

– It is highly appreciated that Chrome uses the Javascript engine to power the next generation of web applications.

– Use the isolated tab process. What is this anyway? Most of us would have faced this problem. Opening many tabs in a browser increases memory usage and also if one tab crashes the entire browser crashes and we need to restart to continue working. However, Google’s careful process saves us from these irritating crashes. According to Chrome, if a tab is locked, only that tab is locked. You can still work with others. This feature alone makes me like Google more!

– Easy installation process: I downloaded Chrome and there is no complication. This is an easily downloadable browser and does not require any technical knowledge to download.

-Less CPU usage: I checked with my task manager and I’m really impressed with the CPU usage Chrome requires. Unlike other browsers that increase CPU usage when more tabs are opened, Chrome uses less space so credit must be given.

-Fast: compared to other browsers, it is fast. But the tech gurus say it should be even faster. But for me, I’m fine with the speed that Chrome is giving right now.

– The combined search box and URL box is really attractive. You can type your searches and the URL bar appears with related sites and makes navigation easy.

– When you open a new tab, Chrome displays your recently viewed websites, larger than the thumbnail size to make it easier for you to visit your regular sites. Although it’s a nice feature, it sometimes intimidates you. But who can say ‘No’ to visit your favorite sites with just 1 click?

-Chrome uses a platform to run the browser that minimizes the need for OS. This is really a good start. We are not far from the OS-free system!

The cons:

– These are my personal problems with Chrome and most of them are functional. But if you want to know more technically about Chrome, just check out the tech guru’s review of Google Chrome.

– Unlike other browsers, when you close the browser, it doesn’t ask if it can close all tabs. Sometimes I lose my job because of this.

-Bookmark Installations: It may be because I’m so used to IE’s and FireFox’s bookmark features, that I’m not happy with Chrome’s. Google Bookmark is given more importance (so obvious!) But what about previously bookmarked sites with other apps?

-Find feature: The CTRL + F is not as efficient as in other browsers. Sometimes it is lost to find!

-Security: more personal information is stored in Chrome, which could be a security problem.

More problems have been found and solutions are already provided. See the Google help page.

An essential activity:

I suggest you read this comic published by Google that explains Chrome and its features.

Why should you download Chrome?

You do not need. It is completely optional. But, if you really want to know what Google came up with, I’d say give it a try after all, it’s free!

It’s really hard for Google to get people to download Chrome and use it. Most people are already comfortable using IE and FireFox and would have a hard time switching to something new. Google needs to introduce simpler and more attractive features so that people believe that Chrome is the best!

Will Google achieve this? Will Chrome survive the world of browsers?

I dont know!
