The Longbridge Decision Written by Robert M Brown, Jr.

This terrible story may be related to some of America’s leadership problems since the 2008 presidential election, just in reverse. This story involves the president’s power struggle, via the Supreme Court, the FBI, and several key lawyers, only his powerful cause is on the far right of conservative extremism. When President Thomas Longbridge brought on board some of his options for those posts, he turned, knowingly or unknowingly, to some extreme evangelicals who thought the nation needed to shift by ANY means to a religious extreme right. Seth Harrington was a very close advisor and lifelong friend, lifelong Christian evangelist, and founder and president of CMA, Christians for a Moral America. If Harrington advised the person or the policy to meet an evangelist’s need, Longbridge was quite right with him in making his decisions.

Mayson Angelini Corelli was an attorney with one of the largest law firms, Lieber Allen Lawyers. Gregory Lamp was the managing partner who also became the nominee for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. Also key members of the firm were Tyler Waddill and Morris Mendelsohn. There are several other key characters in this book and you will get to know them as you read. This is a case of great writing where you have quite a few characters but you don’t get lost as scenes change. When Morris Mendelsohn was found murdered in his apartment, the firm was shocked and when the prime suspect was one of the firm’s members, Mayson Corelli, they had mixed feelings. Some felt that she had killed Mendelsohn, while others deliberately pointed the finger at her in order to advance her conspiracy. In addition, Mayson had a family history of organized crime that landed some of her family members in prison while others were killed. She could be found guilty of this murder very easily with her background.

When authorities showed up at the law office, Mayson was interviewed and became the prime suspect when news spread that she had been seen at the recently murdered man’s apartment. Mayson knew her goose was cooked if she allowed herself to be arrested for a murder she knew she didn’t commit, so she fled the office and hid in various places. When one of the other key members of the law firm, Tyler Waddill, found out about all of her alleged evidence against Mayson, he found it and entrusted it to her, hiding it as best he could. Mayson didn’t know how much to trust him. She didn’t know if he was in on a conspiracy to allow her to be arrested or if he really wanted to help her.

When authorities approached Mayson at a location, Tyler would move her, sometimes in plain sight. Tyler continued to work at the firm explaining various reasons why time was lacking from time to time. Eventually, the game got too close and they had to flee the area, many times taking them into inclement weather conditions and some extremely difficult walks and runs, while eluding various legal authorities. Meanwhile, the extremists continued to try to hide evidence pointing to some of them while telling the nation that they were doing all this for religious correctness in the nation. Even killing innocent people became necessary for some of these religious and righteous leaders (?) without any good excuse that abided by the law, but always showing that they were doing the right thing. Mayson knew there was evidence that would prove who the real killers were, if he could find it before she was caught.

Here I will stop so as not to ruin the plots of this tremendous book. It is fast paced and full of surprises. No falling asleep while reading Robert Brown’s book. When I saw the size of this book, I hoped it wouldn’t turn into a tangled story with no front-to-back connections. Trust me, it wasn’t! Robert M. Brown, Jr., please give us another great book to follow this one. I also really like the paper it was printed on and the easy to read print font.
