There are many business opportunities that use the word warranty in their sales brochures because the word “warranty” draws attention and reduces “purchase anxiety.” Prospects are more likely to convert if they feel their purchase is guaranteed.
People don’t realize that the lower the risk, the lower the return, although risk is not the only factor in a successful business venture. Higher risk coupled with high application and strategic planning increases success. Therefore, risk, application and planning could be used as a formula for success.
The risk can be greatly reduced by analyzing the company before getting involved. Who are the people behind the opportunity? What is your history? How successful are your customers? Is there a need for your product or service in your community? Do they have a proven business plan? How much money do you get for your money? How well do they support their business partners? These and many more questions must be explored before getting involved in any business opportunity.
Earning an income is a matter of preference. Some people are comfortable working for someone else. They like the idea of receiving a paycheck on a regular basis. The very idea of getting ahead on their own terrifies them. There are other people who would not do it any other way, they love the challenge, the adventure and the prestige of having their own business.
The days of starting a business “cold turkey” are, for the most part, long gone. Now you can have a turnkey, franchise, license or business opportunity with a complete business plan, logos, proven advertising copy and even uniforms. The sky is the limit and the pocket is the fuel to buy any type of business that one can imagine.
Starting a business is, for the most part, expensive, risky, and labor intensive. For a person who is not well financed, it is better to start part time and work full time. Unless you really know what you’re doing or are willing to learn, don’t even think about going it alone. It’s like being on a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean and deciding to take your family and set off in a lifeboat with no direction. One day away from the comfort of the ship and you’re begging to return. Fear, anxiety, uncertainty grip you to the core. He fears for his family, his ability to feed, shelter and clothe them. What if the sharks come? Where will you find water? You wish you were back on the cruise ship, warm, well-fed, and safe.
Starting a business, whichever way you look at it, is undertaking on your own. Your family depends on your good judgment and willingness to work long hours. You better have all your ducks lined up before you take the plunge.
