Step 1. Meal plan

The first step is to plan meals. I recommend doing it within the next two weeks to pay less shipping costs. When planning meals, you can use the sites I have suggested above. It’s easy to search these sites for the specific recipes you’re looking for. Remember to think healthy when you’re planning these, and be sure to list the ingredients you’ll need when making them.

Step 2. Check the inventory

The next step is to look through your kitchen and take inventory of what you already have in stock. This may be a good time to clear out expired items and replace them as needed or realize you don’t use an item. This can help you save money by not buying things you already have and looking at things you still need to complete the meals you have planned.

Step 3. Make a shopping list

Compare what items you have after taking inventory of the ingredients in your recipes. Be specific with the ounces on your list if you need it for certain items. Certain recipes will call for perhaps 16 ounces of evaporated milk, and you’ll want to make sure you get the right amount. Once you get on the website, you’ll be able to make a list, but I find it easier to use pen and paper when I keep changing things around.

Step 4. Go to the website

For this example, I’m going to talk about using Google Express, but you can choose your own grocery delivery. I would recommend using Doorstep Grocery. Then Google Express has free shipping on your order as long as you meet the store minimum! This website also does not have a membership that some delivery sites have. You can add the items to an online list and check them off as you go if you like instead of your written list.

Step 5. Start shopping

To get started you want to enter your zip code to see which stores have delivery service. What is offered depends on where you live. On the home page they show sale items that you can view first and add to your cart, this is broken down by category. So for my example I have selected Target. So you can shop by sale items, by category, or by using the search bar. When purchasing, you are shown a picture of the item, the price, reviews, and a star rating. By clicking on the item, you can scroll down and find similar items.

Step 6. Payment

It’s time to proceed to the checkout. You will enter your address and phone number. After that you can choose which day you would like to receive it. Next, the payment method is entered, followed by a billing address. After that, you can place your order and receive a confirmation.
