X-Lite X-701 Helmet Review

According to its manufacturer, X-Lite, the X-701 helmet has undergone several aerodynamic tests in laboratories and on the track. The material is a combination of carbon fiber, fiberglass and Kevlar. The inner layer is made of durable Lexan. In Sharp’s valuable safety test, the helmet earned four stars out of five.

The interior is said to be heat-adjusting Unitherm Light microfiber, which supposedly doesn’t sweat when it’s hot and is warm when it’s cold. It is removable for easy washing. On your head, the helmet feels lighter than it really is. It says that it weighs 1390 grams, but when I compared the weight of the helmets with other helmets in a similar weight class, I felt that it was the lightest among them. The weight of the helmet doesn’t really matter that much for your safety.

What matters is the weight distribution of the helmet and the thickness of the outer shell layer in the impact zone. If the helmet’s center of gravity is high, the helmet will do more neck damage in the event of an accident. The helmet’s carbon fiber and kevlar are also said to spread the impact of bumps over a wider area.

The material inside is quite nice and doesn’t feel sweaty at all. I think the design of the helmet has been done successfully and when riding the helmet feels cool even with the air intakes closed. The X-701 is pretty loud as is, but I think if you would seal the neckline it would help a lot.

Overall the helmet is comfortable to wear and the airflow is definitely well done. The only flaw I could really find was the noise level. Remember, while it’s comfortable on my head, it doesn’t mean it’s for yours, and you should always try a headset on live before you buy, if possible.
